Most cheap silver chains fail the same way. A thin layer of silver over brass or steel looks fine for a few weeks, then the plating rubs off near the clasp and the chain starts leaving a gray mark on your neck. Solid 925 sterling silver costs more up front. It also lasts, and when it darkens you can polish it back to bright in a minute.
That difference decided this list. We looked at brands that sell silver chains to US buyers and ranked them on four things: what the chain is actually made of, how it is built, what it costs, and what happens if you need to return or repair it. Prices were checked in October 2026 and can change.
1. MCKER
MCKER takes first place because it does one job and does it carefully. It makes men’s chains in solid 925 sterling silver, made in Italy, with no plating and no hollow links. Every chain is stamped 925 on the clasp.
The range is small on purpose. You can pick from Cuban link, Franco, rope, round box, wheat and anchor chains, starting with a 1.6mm round box at $197 and going up to an 8mm Cuban link at $983. Every style comes in 20, 22 and 24 inches. The 3mm Franco, a good first chain if you want something clean under a collar, starts at $321.
Buying from the US is easy. Shipping is duty-free to the US and Canada, most orders arrive in three to five business days, and each one ships in gift-ready packaging. Sezzle is available if you’d rather pay in installments. The chain collection holds a 4.68 out of 5 rating across 61 reviews, and one buyer wrote that his round box chain didn’t irritate or discolor his neck after a full day at work.
Who it suits: men who want one chain they can wear every day for years and only ever need to polish. The trade-off is that MCKER sells silver only for now. If you want the same Cuban link in gold vermeil, you’ll have to shop elsewhere.
2. David Yurman
David and Sybil Yurman started the brand in New York in 1980, and its men’s chains are some of the most recognized silver chains in American department stores. The Small Box Chain in sterling silver is 2.7mm wide, comes in lengths from 20 to 26 inches, is made in the USA, and lists at $315 to $325 at Bloomingdale’s.
It makes sense if you want a designer name or plan to add one of the brand’s pendants later. Bloomingdale’s product notes say some of its silver pieces may carry a rhodium coating that can wear off and need replating over time, so ask about the finish before you buy.
3. Tiffany & Co.
Tiffany was founded in New York in 1837, and a chain in the blue box is still the safest gift choice on this list. Its men’s silver line includes curb chains, box link chains and the brand’s own bold gauge links.
The catch is selection. Tiffany’s men’s sterling silver necklace and pendant category held just 10 products when we checked, and most of those are pendants or I.D. tags. If you want a specific width in a Cuban or rope chain, you probably won’t find it here.
4. Miansai
Miansai has been designing jewelry in Miami since 2008. Its Cuban Link Collection runs in sterling silver from 1.3mm to 4mm, and the brand says each link is formed and soldered individually so the chain lies flat. The Type Chain, a 24-inch flat-edged curb chain, can take a monogrammed bead.
US orders over $100 ship free, and full-price, non-custom items can be returned within 30 days. The weak point is the warranty: one year, limited, on silver pieces, and refunds carry a handling fee.
5. Jaxxon
Jaxxon built its name on gold-finish chains, but it also sells silver ones. According to the brand, its silver 3mm Cuban link starts with a 925 sterling silver base, adds rhodium layers and finishes with an anti-tarnish coating. The chains are made in Italy.
That coating keeps the chain bright out of the box. It also means you’re wearing a finish over silver, and finishes wear with daily contact. Solid unplated silver like MCKER’s darkens instead and comes back with a polishing cloth, which some buyers prefer for a chain they plan to keep long-term.
6. Mejuri
Mejuri was founded in 2015 by Noura Sakkijha, a third-generation jeweler, and it sells to US customers online and through its own stores. Its silver pieces are 925 sterling silver, and the Bold Rolo Chain Charm Necklace in sterling silver starts at $298.
Mejuri is strongest for layering and for chains that carry charms. Its catalog leans toward finer, women’s and unisex designs, so men looking for a wide Cuban or Franco link will find more choice at the top of this list.
7. Blue Nile
Blue Nile is best known for diamonds, but it also sells sterling silver chains and pendants, and its orders ship and return free. If you’re already buying a gift there, adding a silver chain is convenient.
Silver is a side category for the brand, though. Chain styles and widths are basic, and the product pages tell you less about construction than a silver specialist would.
8. Theo Grace
For a tight budget, Theo Grace sells a 3.5mm Miami Cuban link in 925 sterling silver for $85, in 22 or 24 inches. Orders come with free shipping, a two-year warranty and 100-day returns.
At that price you get one width in that style, and much of the brand’s catalog is engravable, personalized jewelry. It works well as a first chain or a gift. A heavier daily chain is better bought from a brand that specializes in silver.
How to pick the right silver chain
Start with the stamp. Real sterling silver is marked 925 on the clasp or the end link, and any seller should be able to tell you whether the chain is silver all the way through or a coating over another metal. Plated and “silver-filled” chains cost less because there is less silver in them.
Then check whether the links are solid. Hollow chains feel light, dent easily and can’t be repaired well. A solid chain has noticeable weight in the hand, which is the quickest test when you’re shopping in person.
Width and length come next. Chains between 1.6mm and 3mm look minimal and sit flat under a shirt. Most men land between 3mm and 4mm for everyday wear, while 5mm and up reads as a statement on its own. For length, 22 inches is the usual starting point because it falls just below the collarbone; go 20 inches for a tighter fit or 24 inches if you’ll hang a heavy pendant.
Last, think about care. Solid silver darkens slowly as it oxidizes. Wipe it after wearing, keep it away from chlorine, salt water and perfume, and store it in its pouch. A polishing cloth brings it back in seconds.
